Oklahoma native Carrie
Underwood was born on March 10, 1983. She had a great childhood, stating
that she loved to play on dirt roads, find small animals, climb trees, and sing
for fun. Carrie was very strong willed when it came to her education. She would
graduate from high school and attend Northeastern State University in
Tahlequah, Oklahoma for a degree in broadcast journalism. In those years, she
would sing in the school choir, continuing her passion for singing. While in
her fourth year of college, Carrie would audition for the fourth season of the
number one hit show, American Idol. She traveled from Oklahoma to St. Louis,
Missouri in hopes of starting her music career. Carrie sailed through her first
audition, and was already titled the American Idol winner by the tough judge,
Simon Cowell. After weeks of live performances on national television, on May
25, 2005, America made Simon's prediction a reality, and Carrie was crowned the
fourth American Idol winner. This
would be the beginning for Carrie's bright career ahead.
After her American Idol
win, she began working on her debut album, Some
Hearts. The album became a huge success for Carrie, garnering her first
Hot 100 number one, an ACM award, two CMA awards, and two Grammy's. To
date, Some Hearts has sold over seven million albums. Following her debut
album, Carrie would produce three more hit albums: Carnival Ride, Play On, and her latest, Blown Away. Thus far, Carrie
has eleven Country number one singles, and fifteen top ten Country hits total.
She garnered two more Grammy's since her first album, giving her five Grammy's
total. Carrie's tours have been very successful as well. At the end of her
"Carnival Ride Tour", she totaled 137 tours in front of 1.2 million
audience members, becoming the top selling female Country touring artist. For
her "Play On Tour", she played 108 shows in front of 1 million fans,
again making her the top selling female Country touring artist. Carrie is
also a known philanthropist. She is a vegan, who supports animal rights. She
has donated thousands of dollars to music education. Carrie is a supporter of
LGBT rights, supports gay marriage.
Carrie Underwood has made her way from a reality
television star to a legit musical artist. From being commercially successful
to having a positive impact on the world, Carrie has made her stamp on the
world, and will continue to do so, as her new album Blown Away continues to crank out the hits.
